Twilight

I read Twilight last weekend and I would like to say that I am immune to its charms but, in fact, I read it straight through , stopping only for bathroom breaks and the Ricky Gervais Special on HBO. My husband, the middle school teacher, tells me that every girl in his class is carrying around a copy. It's not as good as Harry Potter, but it is fun and I liked that the author references some writers that girls who read this might investigate (kid- lit as Gateway Drug). I think my main problem with it is that it suffers from a decided lack of spaceships. My niece tells me that there is vampire sex coming later in the series so I may need to continue reading. One can never have enough vampire sex.

My favorite book when I was a middle school yoooot was this

My eldest kid's favorite middle school books were these

The youngest kid was more into these and that reminds me of Anne Hathaway who I just saw in a rather great movie by Jonathan Demme called " Rachel Getting Married" which I highly recommend even though it contains no vampires nor spaceships. Hathaway is brilliant in it and it has a wonderful soundtrack that includes music by the oft overlooked Robyn Hitchcock who I very much enjoy. Here is he singing about that which I love above all.

Wow, I think I'd like to read those Princess Diaries books. Like I said, I'm into light and fluffy and bunnies and rainbows these days (although last night I picked up A Million Little Pieces. What am I thinking? My good friend dropped off a totally fluffy girlie book today and I think I'll be all over it. Especially when I divulge what my day was like. :-)
And the word veri: epthort.

The Meg Cabot books are quite fun, actually. I like her. She is a fellow Lyme disease victim ( as is Amy Tan) so that makes me like her even more( cause we can like...relate and stuff...). She also wrote a series of ghost stories that the kid enjoyed a lot and I am blanking on the name of them right now.

The Vampire sex was a little tame if you ask me.... good thing my imagination could fill in the blanks...

I still need to read Harry Potter...

Another Robyn Hitchcock fan? Hallelujah!! I love that man. "Element of Light" was my favorite, favorite album as a teenager.

Liz, you are a woman of discerning taste.

Yes, Cristin, more Vampire sex is needed. Check out Trueblood on HBO. And if you don't have HBO I am sure the first season is available out there in the ether..

Starbuck, my love, Heinlein certainly was a sexist old bastard but I still have a soft spot for the old curmudgeon!
