I don't know how to do this older woman thing..

The husband and I went to a meeting last night( being the  Obama loving  community organizers that we are)  and I realized, not for the first time, that I have gotta learn how to dress better. Damn. There were some grownup looking grownups there. Everyone was about my age ( or within 15-20 years ) but they all looked like *adults* and I most certainly do not. I just look old.  All the women's outfits matched ( what a concept!) and they all had very coiffed ( is that even a word?) hair. And they wore heels. I have never ever understood the rationale for wearing heels. My feeling is that one should always wear footgear that allows one to run away fast if need be. So , there I was, in my jeans, a black t-shirt and an ancient LL Bean consignment store sweater feeling like a slob. I cut my hair myself and it is just sort of *hanging* there these days. These perky women with expensive haircuts were actually very cool people, although to me they all looked like Laura Bush. You can't fucking tell the cool people from the boring people these days. There really should be some sort of cool uniform, don't you think? Here's the thing though, men don't seem to change the way they dress. The guys were all wearing t-shirts and jeans. One had a t-shirt  with writing on it that said " Dyslexics for Omaba" which made me snort latte' out of my nose. Men apparently can be silly in their apparel and still get taken seriously. But the women there, who were the leaders and movers and shakers of this little cadre, were all frighteningly well dressed. I felt dumb.  I still dress like I did when I was 18 which was in 1969. Damn.  Here's a picture of me when I was about 30. I don't wear overalls much anymore but I still wear the afore mentioned jeans and t-shirts. They're just a whole lot bigger than they used to be.  And yeah, I still wear odd socks.

You must be slightly cool if you were drinking latte. And also, you were at an Obama event. See? Two cool points for you.

Ah, Meg, those sneakers died a long time ago in a galaxy far away.
